Athletic Trainers

The athletic trainer is a highly skilled professional trained in the prevention, recognition, management, and rehabilitation of sports injuries.

An allied health care professional recognized by the American Medical Association, athletic trainers help guide athletes in how to avoid unnecessary medical treatment by providing them with education and counseling.

As part of a complete health care team, the athletic trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care workers, athletic administrators, coaches, and parents. Because athletic trainers know each athlete individually, an athlelte’s specific injuries can be treated appropriately.

Athletic trainers require extensive knowledge and strong decision making skills, which they develop through experience and education. They can be employed in secondary schools, colleges and universities, and professional sports medicine clinics such as Fox Valley Orthopedics.
